I was in Calgary for 16 months on an internship job when I was finally told about this magical place by a friend and colleague, David. The National Music Center (NMC) is known for its collection of over 2,000 rare instruments, artifacts, sound equipment and Canadian music memorabilia. The new building is currently under construction in downtown Calgary and scheduled to open in the Spring of 2016. NMC also hosts a wide variety of live music events—from sit-down jazz performances, to raucous punk and hip hop shows, to touring out-of-town electronic acts. These pics are from the 3rd last guided tour they had before closing their existing location for relocation to the new place (due to open in 2016). It's an absolute privilege to have physically seen and touched few of these preserved milestones of the evolution of the modern day Piano.
In the picture to the right I'm standing next to one of Sir Elton John's initial songwriting pianos (Vertical Piano, 1910 | A. Day | England)
Guiding our tour that day was the talented musician Sarah Davachi
Below is an embedded post of the entire 70+ photos I took that day and posted on my Facebook page. Sarah was very kind to further comment descriptions on most of the pics.
